Forbidden Mountain - Part 1

"Wait, Alxx! Where are you going?"

"Shhhh. Keep your voice down, Mykk. Someone might look this way and I want to get out of the market square without anyone seeing me."

"Where are you going? Why don't you take a transporter? How far are you planning to walk?"

"Be quiet! I can't take a transporter, someone will see me. I'm trying to be discreet about this so nobody will see where I'm going."

"Well, where are you going?"

Sighing, Alxx looked at his friend and said, "I hope you can keep a secret. Especially from the Assembly. I'm going up to Forbidden Mountain."

"You can't! It's strictly forbidden! You are not allowed to go there, you know that and I know that, so why are you so anxious to go?"

"I saw some odd-looking lights up there a few moons ago, lights that weren't there before. They were moving in a strange up and down fashion. Like this, see? It just made me curious and I thought I'd go up there during sun time and see if I could see something."

"See what? You should report it to the Assembly. They have lots of Law Regulators who can deal with a mystery like this. Try to be sensible about it. What would your mother say if she knew you were going against the Assembly decree - especially since she is Assembly Leader?"

Chuck & Charlie - Part 17

"Oh, Mom, isn't it exciting? I can't believe they're giving Charlie and me a citizenship award for finding Lucky!"

"I was very proud of you and Charlie. You did the right thing and made everyone very happy in the process, except for those criminals, of course! You know, I've been thinking, you have been very responsible and I'm sure when you choose your pet from the animal shelter, you will take very good care of it."

"Yowza! Did you hear that Charlie? Mom said I could get a pet. Wow! Come on.. we have to ride over there now. I can't wait to see what the shelter has to offer."

------

"Too bad the shelter didn't have another monkey that liked to play baseball, eh Chuck?"

"Yeah. But hey look at Rufus - he can shag that ball with the best of them. Hey Rufus! Fetch!"

Well, Rufus had other ideas of what to do with that ball. He loved balls. He grabbed the ball and headed straight into the trees at the City Park, with Chuck and Charlie yelling and running after him.

Rufus just loved this game!

The End.

Hope you enjoyed this adventure with Chuck & Charlie. They have more adventures coming up, but first, next week read all about some new friends. You have to use your imagination with Forbidden Mountain - it takes place way, far in the future!

Chuck & Charlie - part 16

"Alright, men, take these guys into the station. I'll phone the hospital and let Mr. Barton know we have taken Lucky to the Animal Shelter. After I do the paperwork, I'll take a drive over to the kid's house to let them know what's happening. I'll see if I can get to the bottom of the mystery of the 'treasure' those criminals were talking about."

-----

"Hi Kids! We have the criminals in jail and have taken Lucky to the Animal Shelter. If you want to visit him, you better go over there now. I think Mr. Barton is anxious to have him back by his side."

"Thanks, Officer Ward, we'll go over there right now. We have his toy ball and I bet he's really worried about it. He just loves his ball and the treasure!"

"Whoa, hold on there.... what are you talking about? What about a treasure?"

"Lucky's ball. It opens up and there's a picture of a baseball player on a baseball diamond in there. Lucky is really a big baseball fan - he can toss that ball as good as anyone!"

"Wait a minute, kids. Back it up a bit... what do you mean 'diamond' in the ball? The criminals were talking about a treasure of some kind and I thought they were just babbling, trying to get out of an assault charge."

"Well, you can twist the ball in the middle, see? It opens and there's Lucky's picture of a baseball diamond in there."

After Office Ward stopped laughing, he wiped his eyes and said, "You know, kids, that's the funniest thing I have ever heard. If we didn't know those criminals were pretty dumb before, we can be sure of it now! I guess they heard something about a 'diamond', or some kind of treasure being kept in the ball and tried, but couldn't get at it! This is so funny!"

Chuck and Charlie looked at each other and asked, "Do you think we can take Lucky's ball over to him now?"

"You sure can. Hop in the car, we'll drive over in style. Cover your ears - I'm putting on the siren!"

Chuck & Charlie - Part 15

"I can't see anything. Oh, yeah, I see the guys now. Quiet. They might be the bad guys. I think we should head back and tell Officer Ward about this."

"Officer Ward, Officer Ward! Quick! Come quick, I think we found the robbers and Lucky!"

"Ok, calm down, Chuck. Tell me where."

"Over in the park. If you go through the trees, on the way to the baseball diamond, you'll see them sittig there, staring up high in the trees. The monkey is up there in the trees."

"Did you actually see the monkey?"

"Yes, he's way up a tall tree, and he has on a bright, red coat - you can't miss him."

"Okay kids. Go home now and we'll handle it from here."

"Gee Chuck, I'm really worried about Lucky. Do you suppose the police will be able to get him down from that tree?"

"I don't know. If I was being chased by those guys, I'd probably never dome down."

"Look at Lucky's ball, Chuck. Isn't it pretty? It's got kind of a space in the middle of it. Ooops! Wow! Look Chuck, the ball twists open and there is something inside."

"What is it? What is it anyway? It looks like a card, or something."

"Yeah, look at this. It's a picture of a baseball diamond - and, oh boy, I think the batter is the famous baseball player, Babe Ruth."

"You were right, Charlie. Lucky really likes baseball. This is probably his biggest treasure and he keeps it hidden in his ball. What a clever little guy!"

Chuck & Charlie - Part 14

Now that the criminals have spotted the monkey up in the trees, they decided to sit and wait for the monkey to climb down.

"What are we going to do now? That stupid monkey climbed way up to the top of that tree!"

"Don't panic. We'll just sit here and wait him out. I mean, where else can he go?"

"Did you bring the ball with you?"

"What ball?"

"You know. The ball the monkey was supposed to have."

"I didn't see any ball. Who says it's worth a lot of money, anyhow?"

"I don't remember. Someone told me it was worth a lot of money. It has a diamond in it, or something. I figure we'll grab the ball and go back down to the research institute with it. Someone there will give us good money for it, I'm sure."

"I hope you're right. I feel stupid, just sitting here and staring up into the trees. What if someone see us?"

"Nobody can see us. There are trees all around us. Just relax. The monkey will get tired before you know it, and then he'll come down."

------

"Gee, Chuck, look at all those police cars around. I hope they can find Lucky. That's a cute name, isn't it?"

"Yeah, cute. I feel awful. I knew we should have taken him to the Animal Shelter right way, but no, I had to try and find Lucky's owner myself!"

"Wait! Sssh... look over there, Charlie. There are two guys sitting under that big tree, looking up. Look up, Charlie. There's Lucky! See him? Way up high, you can tell by his red jacket."

To be continued.

Chuck & Charlie - Part 13

"I have a pretty good description of the criminals, so tell me, Mrs. Main, can you look at these drawings and see if these are the men who were here earlier?"

"Why yes, Officer Ward. The drawings look exactly like the men who were here."

"These men are hardened criminals. Why they are after the monkey is a mystery. We have to get the monkey now, Chuck, and take him to the animal shelter for safety. Then, when Mr. Barton is our of the hospital, we can take the monkey home to him."

"Let's go, Officer Ward. They monkey's right out back."

Officer Ward's cell phone rang and he answered on the first ring. "That call was from Mr. Barton's doctor. He said he is awake and is worried about his pet monkey, Lucky. I told him that we know where Lucky is and we'll be taking him to the animal shelter until Mr. Barton is well enough to go home."

"That is good news, Officer Ward. I wonder why those men want the monkey?"

"I have no idea. But let's hurry out there now."

"Hey, where's the monkey? The monkey's gone! He was sitting right here, playing with his ball. And look! His ball is still here under the blanket, but no monkey!"

"Okay, Chuck. Go back to your house and stay there. Obciously those ciminals have found your hiding place and taken the monkey. I'm going to radio in and then start going up and down the street. Phone your friend, Charlie, just to make sure she doesn't have the monkey, please."

After talking to Charlie and finding she doesn't have Lucky, Officer Ward told Chuck to be brave: "You did the best you could. I will come by a little later and let you know how the investigation is going."

Chuck & Charlie - Part 12

"Watch it! We shouldn't have gone right up to the house. There are the police going into the kid's house now. We should have waited and watched the kids to see where they're keeping the monkey."

"We can still just sit here and watch. We'll see what the police are going to do. That kid's mother can give a pretty good description of us. We should try and keep hidden until we find the monkey. I think we should just trail the kids - they'll probably lead us right to the monkey."

"Hey look. There's one of the kids now, coming out of the bush behind his house. Come on, let's go and see what he's got back there."

------

"Hi, Mom. I'm home."

"Chuck, come into the living room. Officer Ward is here and he'd like to speak to you."

"Hi, Officer Ward. What's up?"

"You tell me Chuck. Did you post these signs around the park and down on Main Street?"

"Sure. Charlie and I found a monkey. We took him to the Wild Animal Park, but he doesn't belong there, he's a trained monkey."

"Yes, I know. Where is he now?"

"We made a little bed for him out back in our fort. We're just waiting to hear is someone lost him. Did anyone phone?"

"Nobody phoned, but we have reason to believe that two men assaulted and tried to rob Gordon Barton yesterday. He just happens to own a pet monkey, who just happened to disappear during the break-in."

To be continued.
